The Hillsboro United Methodist Cemetery, located adjacent to Hillsboro First United Methodist Church, is owned by the Hillsboro United Methodist Cemetery Trust Corporation, which is a separate entity from the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church, Inc. The Hillsboro United Methodist Cemetery Trust Corporation was established to provide perpetual care of the Hillsboro United Methodist Cemetery. It is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501 (c) 13 non-profit organization. The Directors are as follows:

The annual meeting of the Cemetery Trust Corporation is the first Sunday in August at 1:30 pm. This meeting is open to any and all with an interest in the Cemetery. Those eligible to vote for directors of the Corporation are (1) all members of the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church, (2) all persons owning plots in the Hillsboro United Methodist Cemetery, and (3) all person who have made contributions to the Hillsboro United Methodist Church Cemetery Trust Corporation. All are encouraged to attend.

The Corporation’s fiscal year begins on August 1 and a year-end financial report is presented at the annual meeting. Donations and bequeaths that are specified for the Corporation trust fund and all proceeds from the sale of burial plots are deposited into the trust fund. This trust fund was established as a perpetual trust to provide interest income sufficient for care and maintenance of the Cemetery in the future. No money can be taken out of the trust fund, but the interest goes into the checking account and is used for mowing and general upkeep of the grounds. Currently, much of the cemetery upkeep is paid for from donations received or with volunteer labor. We usually schedule two Cemetery clean-up days, one on a Saturday early in April and on a Saturday early in October.

The first Sunday of August is also the day of our annual Church Homecoming. Homecoming is a special time for the Church and the Cemetery Trust Corp. Usually a guest pastor is invited each year to speak, and after church services there is a fellowship meal.
